Temporary hyaluronic acid dermal fillers have been used cosmetically for the past 20 years in North America. Their popularity has risen due to the minimally invasive nature of these treatments and their reversibility and safety. Unlike previously used collagen fillers, hyaluronic acid fillers are non-animal based and have a very low risk of allergic reaction. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in our eyes, joints and skin. These clear, sterile gels are medically approved for cosmetic use. Injected with a fine needle into the skin, they are used to smooth wrinkles and folds, shape facial contours, restore volume lost through aging and define lips. The results will usually last 6-18 months depending on the product used and the area treated. The hyaluronic acid is eventually absorbed by the body and disappears without a trace.

What is the treatment like?

Your treatment will start with an in depth consultation with Dr. Hickey who will work with you to determine your individualized treatment plan based on your aesthetic goals. Dr. Hickey's precise injecting techniques help to maximize the results of your investment. Should you decide to proceed with dermal filler treatment, the face will be cleansed with an antiseptic wash and a topical numbing cream or ice may be applied for your comfort. If you will be receiving injections around the mouth, you may choose a local anaesthetic to freeze the area, much like at the dentist. The dermal filler also contains anaesthetic to enhance your comfort. Most patients are pleasantly surprised with the minimal amount of discomfort experienced.

There may be some temporary swelling or bruising at the treated area. Normal activities may be resumed immediately following the injection. Dr. Hickey will answer any and all of your questions and provide pre and post treatment instructions before proceeding with any treatment.
